Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra presents A Holiday Heist Like No Other!
The Grinch is a familiar character who had his beginnings in stories by Doctor Seuss. Though he makes appearances in earlier stories, this character is best-known from the Dr. Seuss 1957 children's book “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and from the Chuck Jones 1966 television special, where the Grinch was voiced by Boris Karloff.
Since then the story has been retold in movies and plays, and tonight the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra will mark the 60th anniversary of the animated special with our own “animated” version of how the Grinch tried to steal Christmas-joy from the gentle & trusting “Whos” down in Whoville.
We are grateful to have comedian, actor and narrator Quinn Greene with us to bring the mean, green, Christmas-hating machine to life, leading the audience through Whoville with plenty of interactive fun alongside big band flair.
As Quinn speaks of his work: “I am a very, very silly man. I come by this as naturally and earnestly as I can.One could say, I was born to be silly. And I’ve had the great fortune to be able to harness my ‘sixth silly sense’ and turn that into a career that I truly love. As often as I’m able, I ply my trade as a professional actor and comedian, doing my best to make people laugh for a living. There ain’t no better line of work than that!”
In addition to the Grinch story, the WJO will feature several holiday songs by up-and-coming vocalist Megan Guevarra, along with instrumental pieces, such as Huron Carol, Scandinavian Carol and Hymn To Freedom. Oh…and be prepared to sing!
This will be a one-of-a-kind holiday heist that blends Dr. Seuss's timeless story with swinging jazz arrangements and festive cheer for the whole family.
